May is Bike Month!
Posted 16 April 2012 - 10:44 AM
May is Bike Month in North Natomas Schools. Students and teachers are encouraged to participate in May is Bike Month at their school by completing weekly tracking sheets of their bike trips. Weekly prizes are given to all participants, as well as the chance to win gift certificates in weekly drawings. The perpetual trophy given to the top mileage school is currently residing at Witter Ranch Elementary School - where will it end up this year?
Get your bike and brain in the same gear. We are proud to present two great events taking place at the North Natomas Library to get you ready to ride this May. On May 5th, from 10am-1pm, Bike Doc will get your bike tuned up just in time to enjoy May is Bike Month. Once your bike is ride ready you can brush up on your bike skills at a FREE Bike Clinic on May 8th. This free clinic will review how to choose the right gear, basic cycling skills, the rules of the road, and safety strategies. Session time is from 6-7:30pm.
Join others to celebrate the greatness of bicycle riding. On May 10th, from 11am-1pm, join cyclists from around the area to enjoy music, prize wheels, award presentations, and drawings for bicycles at this year's BikeFest on the West Steps of the Capitol. May 17th is the Sacramento Region's Bike to Work Day. To honor all those commuting, or those cruising for a morning ride that day, we will provide a free breakfast to get your day started off in the right direction. Meet us at the East Entrance of Power Balance Pavilion & Truxel Rd from 5 am to 9 am.
Finally, wrap-up the month with a kickoff. Capitol Park Neighborhood Bike Ride - Saturday, May 19th
The 2012 Neighborhood Bike Ride Season kickoff is a wonderful trip through North and South Natomas and onward towards downtown. This pleasurable jaunt includes three bridges (I-80 Bike/Ped, R Street, and C Street Bridges), a view of Capitol Park, and a stop at New Roma Bakery before returning home via the Ueda Bike Trail. Ride departs from the North Natomas TMA office at 1960 Del Paso Road at 8:30am. Always bring water, a helmet, and an extra tube.
