Citrus Heights Begins Enforcement Of New Speed Limit

Quote

The city of Citrus Heights has lowered the speed limit from 45 mph to 40 mph on many of its streets and enforcement of those new limits began on Thursday.

Dozens of speeders were pulled over on Antelope Road, where officers said they often catch drivers going over 60 mph.

"We've had several collisions right here in this zone and they're all related to unsafe speed. You can check the hole in the wall behind me here, power poles up the road that have been hit several times," Citrus Height Police Department Sgt. Eric Mattke said.

I'm all for enforcing the laws, especially red-light runners. I think enforcing the speed limits as they were would have been every bit as effective. In their cited "collisions related to unsafe speed", do you think the drivers were at 45 mph rather than 40? No, I suspect they were well over 45, making the point moot.

The real reason for the change is beyond me, but I'd bet it's related to dollars and cents...  :P

Thank you, Eric. I just stumbled upon it last night by accident.
I look forward to participating.
