Nine-year-old Terrel Hall's depression was brought on by bullying at school, his mother said.
The school is investigating why a teacher let the student walk home alone after the student tried to kill himself three times, school officials said.
Fairbanks Elementary Principal Ken Kloster said the teacher in question may face disciplinary action.
"The policy is always that the parent is notified," Kloster said.
"He endangered himself and they did nothing," said the boy's mother, Jessica Castro.
"He tried to hang himself in the playground. Once by using the bars, then his jacket and once with a backpack," Castro added.
Castro said the boy is undergoing treatment and will not be returning to Fairbanks Elementary.
