Restauranteur Tom Fat Dies at 66

Tom Fat, a second-generation restauranteur who helped guide the popular Fat City restaurants established by his famous father Frank Fat, has died.

Family members told the Sacramento Bee that Fat, 66, succumbed to the effects of a sarcoma cancer at his San Diego home Thursday.

Born in 1940, Fat was one of five children born to Frank Fat, who opened Frank Fat's Restaurant on L Street in downtown Sacramento in 1939. The landmark restaurant, popular with Capitol lawmakers, became a Sacramento institution, in later years spawning several offspring eateries, including Fat City Bar and Cafe in Old Sacramento and Kung Fu Fat's at Sacramento State University.
