A man was shot by a Sacramento County sheriff's deputy Saturday evening in Rancho Cordova at the Mills Tower Apartments on Mills Tower Drive near Glenview Way.
According to Sgt. Tim Curran, about 7 p.m., a woman reported that her son, 42-year-old Kelly Fulton, was threatening her and and neighbors with a shotgun.
Curran said officers from the sheriff's department and Rancho Cordova police approached the apartment and heard a gunshot.
Officers saw Fulton approach them with a sawed-off shotgun and ordered him to drop it. The officers say at that time, Fulton pointed the shotgun at them. An unidentified deputy fired one shot and hit Fulton in the torso. Fulton fell to the ground and was taken into custody.
