Family spokesman Jim Mullany says 15-year-old Courtney L. Parker has been declared brain dead at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. He said her family is waiting for the return of her older brother from Hawaii to say his goodbyes. The victim had just finished her freshman year at Granite Bay High School.
The CHP said the girl was walking with a friend southbound on the righthand shoulder of Auburn-Folsom Road south of Robin Hood Way when she was struck about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday.
Friends told News10 Parker had been with friends at a Taco Bell restaurant on the corner of Auburn-Folsom Road and Douglas Boulevard earlier in the evening. The friends were walking northbound on Auburn-Folsom when Parker remembered she had left her cell phone at the restaurant. She and another girl turned back at Joe Rogers Road and walked southbound on Auburn-Folsom. The friend said she felt something brush against her, turned to look at Parker and didn't see her. The friend turned back and saw Parker lying in front of her, apparently thrown about 30 feet by the vehicle that struck her.
