Luckily, my neighborhood has been very quiet when it comes to crime.  I'm hoping it stays that way.

We got a security system for a different reason, but posted that we had one in every window later.

We also try to leave our porch light on at night and have a phone list for all our neighbors so we can call each other if we see something suspicious and/or they leave the garage open.

this ties in with the neighborhood watch, but when someone on our block goes out of town, a neighbor will usually park their car in their driveway, make sure garbage cans are put back in and pick up mail and newspapers. I guess in the case of home invasion robberies those things don't help as much.
