I wanted to alert people about this Valero gas station on the corner of El Camino and Mission - I think this is Arden/Arcade as it's on the other side of Mission Ave. I needed gas the other day and thought of the two closest gas stations to where I was at the moment. Both were Valeros, one at that location, the other on Arden adn Eastern. I saw the price as this Valero was posted on the big sign $2.349, and I thought the other Valero was the same price. So I stopped, filled up, lookedat my receipt and saw that I was charged $2.439 per gallon! WTF!! I then looked at another smaller sign under the big one and they had both prices. $2.349 for cash or Valero card, and $2.239 for credit card, and obviously I paid w/ a credit card at the pump. What a ####ing ripoff!

Just for curiosity sake I went and checked the other Valero to see if they did the same shady pricing and NOPE! Theirs was even less! $2.319/gal! Period! No cash vs. credit underhanded pricing scheme!

Ugh, I'm pissed! I won't be going back to that one on El Camino and Mission again! Not to mention it's a dump and people hang out there from the neighboring apartment complex all the time.

$2.43 is high! There are some places with $1.99 gas right now!

Credit card companies do not allow businesses to add fees to credit card purchases, but it looks like Valero is skirting that restriction by offering a different price for those who don't use a credit card. It's the same thing, IMO, but since the Valero owners don't actually call it a service fee, I guess it's okay.

Call Kurtis on ch.13 looked into cheating gas stations, but it doesn't look like he covered this issue at all. They do mention a Valero though...

Quote

During the January inspection at a Valero station on Franklin Boulevard, inspectors say all 24-meters were in favor of Valero. In other words, no customer at this station got what they paid for.

At the end, it offers the following advice...

Quote

1. Make sure the meter is at zero before you pump.
2. Check to see if the price on the pump matches the price on the sign.
3. If you pay cash or debit, make sure it doesn't show the credit price on the pump.

I emailed a complaint to Valero corporate and also sent a hard copy letter but haven't heard much in the way of a response. Here is all I got besides the automated "we got your email" email.

Thank you for your email concerning a site on 4646 EL CAMINO AVE. in
SACRAMENTO,CA. We are sorry about your experience and displeasure at
this location.  As this site is a franchise location that is not
corporate owned, this information has been forwarded to the party
responsible for this site.  A complaint ticket has been created and sent
to the distributing company to address this issue with the store owner
and the employees.  Thanks again for your email.
Sincerely,
Valero Customer Relations
