Most of you probably heard about the TSA's full body scanners and new pat down methods. If you're like me, you're completely outraged.

Now it's hit home - here's a woman who had her genitalia touched (twice!) at Sacramento International Airport.

Quote

"She said 'spread your legs.' And then she took her full palms and started at my neck and ran all the way down my body, full palms, constant contact. And when she got down to my feet, she was in constant contact from my ankles all the way up to my groin, across my groin, and down the other leg. And she did that twice," Gigliotti said.

Here's the thing. Do I agree with this? Well, I'd rather not have it, but the reality is that flying is a dangerous thing. It's been proven that people can still get things onto the planes. Search or bomb? I don't know.

What I do know is that I don't fly anymore. I used to travel a lot. Now I didn't stop flying because of 9/11, but when 9/11 happened, I was a bit glad that I wasn't traveling so much. I did fly after 9/11, but I don't anymore.

I'm not sure what the answer is. The pat downs are invasive for some; the scans are invasive for some; a bomb kills.

I'm glad I don't fly anymore.

It's all for show. Look at Ben Gurion Airport in Isreal. 25min from entry to being ready to board. None of this BS and no attacks for many years in a country known for terrorist attacks.

The United States is a much different country than Isreal, and a target for Airline attacks for a gazillion other reasons. That really is apples and oranges.

I whole heartedly agree with Orrymain. Protections can't please everyone. When I don't like a business's practices, I just don't give them my business.

For those who are Forced to fly, and are unhappy about the invasions, it will just become part of the experience. Those who make the Choice to fly, either accept the process or Don't Fly.

There are freaks everywhere, Doctors raping patients, Dentists touching people, etc. If that happens, stand in line in the Justice System just like everyone else who gets injured by a person that is there to help you.

With all the new materials they are making weapons out of these days, that actually pass these detectors, it is scary, and surprising, more attacks haven't happened.

The security measures they have in Isreal are simple and cost effective and, most importantly, don't force people to give up their rights. I think their methods should have at least been tried here before we got to this point.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Ben Franklin (1759)

"The pursuit of security should not force Americans to surrender their civil liberties or basic human dignity at a TSA checkpoint." -Sen. Doherty (2010)

I must agree that it is a fine line and we have to be careful about crossing it. However, in the case of flying, we're not talking about an individual at risk, it's groups of people including the other passengers and anywhere that plane might land or explode. At this point in time, I have to reluctantly air on the side of homeland security.

Feel free to be strip searched and groped by a complete stranger in plain view of others. That's your right. We still have the right not to be. Do you have children? Do you want them subjected to this? It's inconceivable to me.

I have to add that the number of people in a plane is very small when compared to a mall or sporting event. I wouldn't want mall security doing this sort of thing. They're probably just as qualified. ;)

Unless... when the plane blows up, it crashes into a mall, and pieces fly on to the surrounding freeways, schools, suberbs and maybe even on and into a coliseum...

That's exactly it. Some folks are assuming there's no reason for this. You know what ends up happening? Those same people will sue for millions citing lack of security or whatever once something does happen. If you fly, it's just going to be part of the cost. I don't like it; I wouldn't want to go through it. So, maybe it's time to consider other modes of transportation. Or, as some have said, maybe more regulation needs to be put into the people doing the pat downs.

Do you have a link to their security methods? It would be great to not have to get to the airport hours before your departure...

In listening to the news and such, I'm leaning more towards other personnel conducting these searches. They need to train medical personnel to do this, people who are more sensitive in touching the human body.

It's stuff like this that makes me glad I don't travel much. And I'm really thankful we're not flying this week w/ the National Opt Out Day! Airports are going to be more of a mess than a typical Thanksgiving!

Now the TSA is telling minors that it's a "game". Who else tells children that groping is just a "game"?? That's right, sexual predators. Stay classy, TSA.

Really? That is not appropriate at all. Kids will get mixed messages.
