<editing myself - this is about a situation where I decided to call authorities just to make sure that someone wasn't injured inside a business that should have been open, said it was partially open, but no one responded)

Here's the thing, and my real issue. I had to look up the phone number, which I figured was in Sac Cnty. The first number was a disconnected one, so I called the next number which was actually the city police. He gave me the number of the county sheriff. Fine -- but I was amazed at the lengthy and cumbersome phone system both departments had. I could be dead by the time I heard all the options. Granted, it wasn't a 911 situation, that I knew of, but it was very frustrating. They were giving out phone numbers and web links ...

The point is, it's not appropriate for the police or sheriff to have that kind of automated system. We need to be able to reach an officer, now, not 10 minutes later. I may never call again; just way too frustrating.

It's also frustrating when calling 911 from a cell phone. You used to go directly to CHP, but now I think you have to go through a menu. With so many people ditching their landlines for cell phones, you'd think they'd make the sytem more efficient instead of less!

It certainly isn't inviting and doesn't make a person want to call. Maybe that's the goal.
