The New York Mets are calling up A.J. Ewing, their most electrifying prospect, according to a report from Will Sammon. The 21-year-old, selected in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, has elevated his performance this season even beyond his breakout 2025 campaign in the minors.
After finishing the 2025 season in Double-A Binghamton following two earlier promotions, Ewing began the 2026 season back at the same level. However, after posting a blistering .349/.481/.571 slash line with two home runs and 12 stolen bases, he earned a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse.
Since arriving at Syracuse, Ewing has played 12 games at the highest minor-league level, hitting .326/.392/.435 without a home run but swiping five additional bases. That brings his season total to 17 steals while being caught only once.
It remains unclear which player will be removed from the active roster to make room for Ewing. Given the Mets’ struggling major-league lineup, there are numerous candidates. Ewing has spent the vast majority of this season in center field, but he also has significant professional experience at second base and has logged innings at both corner outfield spots.
