During the NBA playoff Western Conference semifinals, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 115-110 on the road, completing a 4-0 series sweep to advance to the conference finals. After the game, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault shared his thoughts on facing LeBron James and his team.
“I said it before the series started—what he’s doing at this stage of his career is remarkable,” Daigneault told reporters. “The fact that he’s still playing at this level, at this age, is astonishing. And the level he’s reaching is truly incredible.”
Daigneault emphasized the challenge James presents. “If you make any mistake against him, he’ll make you pay. In fact, it helps you grow as a team. He forces you to sharpen every edge. Any crack in your game, he’ll find it and exploit it.”
The coach acknowledged that great players in the playoffs often test teams in similar ways. “He’s not the only one we’ve faced who does this—great players in playoff series will sharpen your blade. But what’s incredible is that he’s still doing it at this point in his career. Even the first five minutes of Game One were a perfect example of how to set the tone for a series.”
Daigneault expressed deep admiration for the Lakers star. “I have the utmost respect for him. His career speaks for itself, but being able to compete against him up close is an honor. I have deep respect for both him and his team.”
