For some time, Bayern Munich had lost its special aura in Europe and even saw its domestic dominance interrupted when Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen won the Bundesliga in the 2023-24 season. However, after a first season in which he reclaimed the Bundesliga and put everything back in order, Vincent Kompany is now in a prime position to join the exclusive club currently led by Jupp Heynckes and Hansi Flick.

With just weeks left in the season, Bayern Munich is the only team in Europe still capable of replicating what PSG achieved last season by winning the treble of league, cup, and Champions League. PSG fell early in the Coupe de France, Atletico Madrid has been out of the league race for a while and just lost the Copa del Rey final to Real Sociedad, and Arsenal were eliminated from the FA Cup in the semifinals.
Bayern Munich laid the first stone for the treble last weekend by clinching their 35th Bundesliga title with four matchdays still to play. The victory over Stuttgart also marked Kompany’s 50th league win in just 64 matches. The only manager to reach 50 victories faster was his mentor Pep Guardiola, who did it in 61 games.
“It feels great. For me, every title feels like the first one. We have to enjoy these moments because there’s a lot of hard work behind it,” Kompany said about winning his second Bundesliga in commanding fashion. His side has only suffered four draws and one defeat, and just last week broke their own historic goal record from the 1971-72 season. The tally now stands at 109 goals and counting.
Kompany values the title but is already looking ahead. “The season isn’t over yet. There are still things to win. PSG, the reigning Champions League winners, are probably the toughest challenge. But before that, we have Bayer Leverkusen,” he reflected on the Allianz Arena pitch as his players celebrated.

With places in the Champions League and DFB-Pokal semifinals secured, the situation is ideal for dreaming of the treble. A feat that only Jupp Heynckes (2013) and Hansi Flick (2020) have achieved in Bayern’s history. However, Kompany has not stopped to consider that possibility. “I just want to win the next game. Thinking too much about the future is not one of my qualities.”
The coming weeks look incredibly promising for a Bayern side that could become the first team ever to win three different trebles. They have already laid the foundation by defending the Bundesliga title.
